You are on the right road.  Get the installs down packed before you move on.  The number one thing you can do is ask questions.  This is what I did.  When ever I found a problem and didnt understand.  I would always find the right person to ask within the company.  If you can, try to get good with a system tech.  If you find the right system tech, show him that you are highly interested in what you are trying to learn.  Now dont try to rush it.  But you need to be persistent.  If your a in house tech, try to get your hands on a cable bible.  This will help out a lot and helps make since of alot of things you will learn. 

1. Stay interested
2. ask questions
3. find the right person
4. be patient

  You will learn alot by being on the job than you would going through a book.  After you do this, The JonesNCTI course will be a piece of cake.
