Re: SCTE Cable Tech Expo in Denver; Trey

This expo was NOT for technician. It is for those who use the services of techs. It all goes back to how VITAL techs are to the business.  Getting the best tools out there in the hands of techs benefits all the entities that participated in the expo.  No matter how good you product is, a bad install turns your product into garbage.  So it is in many peoples best interest that installs be done correctly. So companies are invited to the expo to see the latest and greatest gadgets available to techs, which is fine.  The issue is how, and at what cost those gadgets make it to the hands of technicians. For exaple, many times mandates come down to subs that they MUST have these gadgets to work.  But with that mandate for having a better gadget, there comes no mandate for better pay.  Most times the pay goes down. IN the rest of the world, when requirements, skill level, and expectations go up, usually the paygoes up as well.

About the picketing....I should have been more specific.  What I meant was informational picketing.  Informational picketing is just a way of alerting those who attended or passed by the expo, with the use of hand bills and flyers, the problems of those who actually install the products that are making many of the expo attendees money. NO blocking entrances or screaming. The expo is a good thing and we want as many people as possible to come to the expo.  Therefore when you hand bill the place, your information gets into the hands of MANY people.

IMO, we cant expect things to get fixed if everyone who has the ability to change things aren't aware of the problem.  Informatinal picketing is a way to get more people aware that there is a problem in the industry. And my friend, when we have reached the point where guys are basically PAYING TO WORK, there is a problem, and I really believe if some of expo folks knew many of the things that go on day to day in this industry they would not be happy.  Many of things that go on day-day, puts their investments at risk.
