look into france's nuclear a little closer. they have the cheapest energy around, of course its because their government subsidizes it. they have had several "small" safety instances. they have 59 nuclear reactors in their small country, but look into what percentage of their energy is actually fossil fuel. also, look into their processing of the waste. 1% can be reclaimed for lesser energy use and nuclear grade weapons, look into how much waste goes into the english channel due to a "loophole" in regulations. check out what happens if the outside river water temperature is too hot (reactors must have suitably cool water to cool them or they can not operate). i have no doubt that America's nuclear would stand strong against France's.
i'm not against nuclear, fossil fuel or most other forms of energy, but nuclear energy (much like nuclear weapons) is an awesome responsibility. an awesome power and an awesome responsibility. who do you trust to operate it?
