T5 Amplifier

Hi, today i was asked a question about putting an amplifier at the end of line and not having any output legs.  I couldn't answer it and nor could any of my class, I was curious if anyone has ever heard of doing this and why would a system design one like this?  I work for Comcast in Augusta GA and my instructor said sometimes systems do this for a reason but it baffled me as to why.  He called it a "T5"
