To the best of my knowledge you can still work as long as you at least applied for a license. As for the hourly offer, that might not be such a bad thing either. Generally speaking the employees get the better work and the subs get the crap. Employees get paid sooner than subs. Employee has no cash outlay, subs pay for everything. Employees (sometimes, not always) better chance at getting insurance, subs get the highest premium because they are usually sole proprietor.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you do. Just remember no matter which way you choose, do the best you can and don't take shortcuts.
