picture this, this is a backfeed.

think of a tree trunk. in its rings from center to the outside you will find rings that that tree grew.
think of that trunk as a coax cable. freq travels in volume/waves along a year that that tree represented.
I laymans terms, man, think of that tree trunk as a two way street. its hard to imagine without me drawing it on paper, but you higher freq travels on the outside of that trunk, down the line to its reciever. Thats a one way street right? Now, there is a large portion of the inner coax not being used. the younger rings of that tree can carry lower signal from the reciever BACK through the system and delivered to another source, say a secondary television. Thats a two way street. While cable, CATV, uses all the rings as a carrier wave it will prohibit a reverse feed because it, the coax, its entire space is being used. From the the IRD (reciever) the broadcast can be split up into twos and sent back UP the line while the diplexer verts the lower freq to a secondary source.
