A union is not the answer, a co-op is the way to go. A management team employed by the co-op with various contractors that get the primes pay rate minus 10 to 15 %  for co-op dues, the percentages could be adjusted per job depending on what the MSO is paying and the management team salary totals. By going co-op the contractors would be eligable for group insurance rates (Workers comp, health etc.) all under the co-op umbrella, farmers and natural foods grocery stores have been doing this for years.
