most of the time the diplex is behind the receiver, at the can or under the dish... if you found one in the attic they probly had to tap into that coax for the back feed.. dont expect diplexers on a directv jobs your gonna see them on dishnetwork installs for the dual tuners... good luck.. oh and for how they work its simple one side is for the power passing and the other for the back feed
