I never understaood that rationale either. I have had my old bike since 1978. Bought it a police auction, rebuilt it,
changed a few things over the years, changed it back, you know WTF, That thing is still carrying me everywhere.
Don't see any jap bikes runnin the road that were manufactured in 1969. Oh yea, new that bike sold for a little over 2500 and I've been offered over 12,000 for it. Show me a jap bike that increases in value like that. Hell why do you think they used to put that Made in Japan label on stuff. That was to let you know to throw it away when it became worn out.
