Re: CableGuy Nightmares

CROWN POINT | A Gary man became so enraged when he learned his TV wouldn't readily accept his newly installed cable, he shot and killed the cable guy.

Fransuah Mathews admitted Thursday he fatally shot a man installing cable for him to repay a debt when Mathews realized his TV was not cable ready.

Prosecutors originally charged Mathews, 25, with murder in the shooting death of Verndell Warmack, 39.

In an agreement Thursday, Mathews pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. In exchange, he will be sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On Aug. 7, 2004, Warmack was on a ladder at the back of Mathews' house in the 3900 block of Virginia Street in Gary, court records say. Mathews said Warmack was installing cable because Warmack owed him money

When Mathews realized his TV wouldn't accept the new service without more equipment, he got angry, according to the plea agreement. Mathews went outside and shot at Warmack, who got off the ladder and ran.

Mathews kept shooting, hitting Warmack in the leg and chest.

That sucks
