couple of things to consider here 1) If you are an independant contractor working as a sub for another, unless you carry your own insurance your S.O.L...2) If your working as an employee/contractor (one of those so called "employee based" co's) then you should be covered under workers comp. 3) If what you said was true about " doing the guy a favor" then any company can dispute you even being there..ie: no work order... then that opens up another can of worms. and last, in most states homeowners are required to have the " common walkway" cleared within 24 hours after snow and are under no obligation to clear the walkway from the common walkway to their door or their personal drivway. however you may be able to go after the guy's homeowner insurance. looks like you were doing a good deed and now your paying the price, Good luck!!
