Look around you in any project for cable or group of dish installers and tell me if a democracy would really work. Somebody has to have organizational abilities to run it, and that would mean you would have to elect a group of persons to run the show and represent the collective to the MSO or the main dish companies and those people would need to be paid to do so, and hopefully the ones you elect actually know what the eff they are doing. In having said people run the show there would be those in the field that would most definitely gripe about that and complain about how much those people make for what they do. Add in all of the legitimate expenses it takes to operate a business and you are getting back to having the same thing as before.
It's just not feasible having the patients run the asylum.
