Re: at&t strike??

Ask union workers what they get for storm work, while working on the road, working the same amount of hours.  You'd be suprised that $6k a week is not really that big a deal.  When AT&T techs are detailed to other areas, their hotels are paid for.  Their gas is paid for.  They are paid for the time driving to the new location.  The are paid time and a half for the first 9hrs of OT and are paid double time for anything over 49hrs for the week.  They also receivce a daily per diem when detailed out, and receive a meal allowance when they work over 10 hours for the day.   When they go home and visit the family, the company pays.

So, as you can see, when you look at the complete compensation package its about the same.  The difference is your rates can be cut at any time.  Your wages for out of town storm work, is only slightly higher than what a union worker would get for going to an out of town training class.  You've got to look at the big picture.  I just realized I haven't even talked about pension contributions union employers make to workers pension plans. as well as how AT&T, for example, matches $0.60 for every $1.00 a worker contributes to their 401K.
