I wouldn't actually say that all the sat guys were lazy that diplexed those lines because some jobs and customer standards of cable runs only leave 1 choice. In a 2 story with offset walls, no attic area or access above the offset on 1st or 2nd floor, w/prewire and the modem and dtv/dish is in that room on 1st floor, wall is outside wall but customer doesn't want cables on the outside of house or wrapped aroung the baseboard, with hardwood floors, and customer doesn't want to move furniture 20' to wall that can be fished, what are you to do? The diplexors were made for that exact reason. 2 signals on one line, right. Everything worked for years with those diplexors, why would they think the sat industry screwed them if they got yrs of the best of both worlds via the sat industry. Therefore the sat guy did do the job right. There was no thought 2 yrs ago that modems would change frequencies and the diplexor wouldn't work anymore, hence the confusion on why it doesn't work.
Thanks for the heads up though on the modem changes. I'm in Texas and I don't think they have changed their frequencies down here, at least not in my area. From now on though the customer will have to move his modem cause my dtv is going where i say it is going if they like it or not. They are usually already mad at the cable provider, hence the reason I am at their house and they have a modem only and no cable tv. Their internet is usually great, but that damn cable sucks. did I say that out loud. My bad!!
On to cable downing sat to come up. crabs in a bucket theory huh? My theory, all the nerds behind the scene that make all of this work need to get toogether and make 1 company. could you imagine the low rates and the quality service you would get with a dish on the house, 1 little router type of rcvr (in or outside), able to split the signal to as many tv's as you want (at a small fee) and be able to watch different channels on every tv, no rcvrs, the package you order determines the type of service you get, whehter basic, dvr or Hd. No more long telephone pole runs needed, no drops.
By the way, paying about $300/100 per install. don't we wish.
good Luck
