Stand your ground there BHauser. That is one of the best ideas I have yet seen to 'weed them out'.
Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of these silly (alleged) contractors that want your entire life history and pertinent personal info before deigning to consider replying to you...that only serves to tell them how much of a novice you are and how easy it will be to lie to you repeatedly when it matters later.
But in B's case, I am in full agreement: the concept is simple...if you cannot follow instructions, and you cannot describe on paper an abstract like random troubleshooting (IN LAYMAN'S ENGLISH), you have NO business talking to MY customers...regardless if the customer understands. It's called "professionalism'. You just never know when you are being 'sandbagged'...or interviewed!
