To reiterate (to say again)  the contractor was a dumb**s   It had nothing to do with the poles not being maintained if you have been in this industry any length of time the reality is that poles are only replaced on an as needed bassis.   when they are broke or when they are brought to the attention of the owner of the pole.    If you were trained properely you would check out a pole and make sure it is safe to climb or set a ladder on, if nessary.  And the pole step is called a grunt peg, any good lineman rearly uses them.   Use your common sence and don't --------
