Re: Splicing Question..

The fiber splicing industry has changed a lot over the past 20 years, back in the late 80's early 90's everyone wanted Siecor certified technicians. I went to Hickory sat through the class and came away with a piece of paper which back then opened some doors, today it is not worth a whole lot.

There is no standard recognized certified training for this industry when it comes to fiber splicing, NCTI has a course and the MSO like it for their in house guy's, but on the contracting side it does not mean a whole lot. If you are into inside wiring BICSI has courses as well. I have hired, and trained a 100 or more techs over the past 20 years and I can say that if I was hiring today a and had the choice between someone who had no experience in fiber splicing and one who had taken a class it would still be a level field of play and my choice would be decided from their overall experiences and what kind on impression they made at the time I interviewed them.

I wish there was a school that would provide "real world" training for this industry I think as a whole the industry would be better off.
