Give the pirates the 2 mill but have it heavily infected with some sort of really nasty bio weapon. Then make sure that the main ship is disabled by blowing off it's screws and just sits there while the entire crew become infected and turn into puss oozing medical waste flopping around on the deck like epileptic fish out of water.
