You are right, as far as main stream offerings go, nothing comes close to FIOS. I'm still amazed that cable TV MSO's didn't jump on the Fiber bandwagon in the mid-80's like they originally were going too.  I guess digital compression changed their course of action. Cable TV companies have always been of the motto, let's do it the cheap way, not the best way. Always motivated by short term profits, never thinking long term.

In a few more years they should be able to do some kind of Wireless off the fiber node's anyway, eliminating the plant after the node.
