there are times one has to use a ladder. No one should criticize anyone for doing so. If that is your comfort zone then you are wise to do it as safely as you can. Just as you said, you have wife and kids that are impacted by anything happening to you.
We had a guy who didn't strap to the line during a wreckout on a mid-span. And he didn't cut the very tight line at the house first. So when he cut the line on the strand, the pressure released and he went flying. Straight to heaven or wherever he ended up. All because he may or may not have had a Paul J. to let him know the proper way. If he did, he didn't listen. Good for you Rage.
