we used 30 dB but that was so we could pad all test channels to the same level for the pop. We quit using bandpass because we needed to find harmonics that were too high and were affecting the picture. CSO and CTB  were present but unless there was a problem we could usually get in the high 60's or low 70's. Even low 60's. Not a problem til we got into the 50's.
