It's not a black issue, it's a poverty issue. If you can't feed the "monster" by hiring lawyers,paying court cost....victims funds...etc. you get a public defender who gets a flat rate for your case (in most states). His interest is best served by pleading as many cases as possible, thereby making as much money as possible while making good friends w/the DA. This will serve him when he makes it as a atty and no longer needs court appointed work. The DA's conviction rate skyrockets making it possible for him to pursue public office and Becoming senator or some such BS. All the while, the innocent guy that couldn't afford an atty rots in jail. America.....what a country. As a subscript, it should be noted that while the US has one fifth of the worlds population, we have 25 percent of the worlds population of prisoners.
