my advise is to check with your local cable company and get in as a installer trainee and work your way up.  Depending on how fast positions open up, you can move up the ladder pretty quickly.  I got my lineman experience from working in a very small cable system.  In it, everyone does pretty much everything.  When its slow its easy to roll out with a lineman and be his grunt.
