It wasn't for a history lesson. It was to comment on the current situation and more to the point the situation about to come. If the oil execs and corporations take money from us it is because we chose to give it. If the government takes it, it is because they are taxing us and they are going to tax us more. That is involuntary.

We don't have to buy things that we don't need. Meaning if gas is high then we cut back and the prices go down.

The Dem party back when you speak of is not much different than today. Yes they wanted a country somewhat like England. Then why did we leave? Because we didn't want to be taxed and live in a socialist environement. So we are returning hence the quote. It is and will be mandated taxation so many don't have to work and will settle for what the government provides. Free housing, free medical, free food. All from those of us who work.
