There is something to what you say.

IF the unions were more like the old guilds and controlled the quality of the work I think it would be easier to speak to business owners. Where both sides have something to gain by quality work, things can happen.

Where you have strikes because a machine has just replaced human production is, I think, the crux of the issue. A close second would be using untrained and illegal employees (read children, those not allowed in the country, criminals working for cash and those clearly not able to do the work) Dangerous work schedules and conditions come in somewhere.

It is not a simple issue.
