Anybody ever experience IF interference?

Just something I have witnessed twice in the last week or two. We have a brand new Motorola HD/DVR wth a brand new URC Remote control and for some reason cannot get them to communicate with certain buttons on the remote that otherwise work just fine at other locations. We have swaped out about 10 boxes and remotes between the two locations that this is occuring at and everything seems to go away when we unplug the HDMI cord or cup our hands over the end of the remote and hold it right up to the box. Our theory so far is that maybe some stray IF is leaking out of the HDMI cable or HDMI port. Anyone every come accross something similar to this or have any suggestions as to something else that is causing this to occur.
