I agree, but if you own a dictionary you will see that cause and reason have the same meaning. Go tell an employee “your fired” without any notice. Watch how fast he/she runs to a lawyer. You must first give a verbal warning. Second, a written warning. Third is suspension. And fourth is termination. And as I stated. All infractions must be fully documented in detail. Go try it any other way and let me know the lawsuit goes.
