Re: Fire ants

Humh , I'm from North Carolina and live here on the Coast , the Ant you just described sounds like what we call cow killers , they look like they have red fur on them . Never seen a mound of them. I'd hate to see that especially as close as fayetville . I've never been bit by one , but have heard stories of them killing cows . If its the same type of ant , you can pin one down with something and you can actually hear the ant screaming . I'll be looking for those mounds my next trip up I40 . We have two different sizes here on the coast nothing nearly that large . I once lost a baby Rottie to fire ants , the mother had given birth to pups in the dog house and one of them had fallen outside without her noticing . By the next morning the pup was dead , the ants had some how split little lesion's all over the pup where you could see meat through the hair . Yup there some nasty little buggars . Thanks for sharing that info. Southern . I'll keep my eyes open for them. Duck
