If I am not getting paid, or it is not a friend I am doing a favor for, then I better get paid for driving the vehicle. Would think since officially you were not a employee, insurance wouldn't cover you. Especially since you hadn't had a drug test yet.
Bottom line, you did the right thing, and if they were willing to treat you like that first time around, well it probably would have got worse.
