FYI: All states have laws that will protect the "cable techs".
01. It is against the law for a Prime to charge you for "workers comp". If this is happening to you, you can file a complaint with your state and you will receive up to three times the amount that has ever been taken from your check for workers comp. Don't believe me, contact the workers comp office in your state.
02. Unless you actually sign a "contract" with a prime, (not a one way contract that only favors the prime), you are protected by the federal employee act. You are considered an employee if: a. you cannot choose your own type of cable work, b. you cannot choose your work days, c. you are not required to obtain your own business license and/ or permits.
03. Technically, if the vehicle that you use to do your cable work was to break down, you can force the prime to cover the cost to repair it....(you are using your vehicle to do work for your employer.
04. It is against the law for a company to hold your check. Period. There are no exceptions to this. In most states, you are entitled to 3 times your check if not given to you on the regular payday, even if you quit or get fired. All you have to do is call the state. If that company that holds your check is still in business or doing business under another name, you will get your monies that are owed to you ( times 3 or more).
More to come at a later date...
