I feel your pain. I've been able to grow into computer repair/networking, home theatre and commercial sat installs from the base I built with DBS and WB systems.
I rarely do "free" installs anymore. Thankfully, almost every job wants a wallfish, convenience outlet, wireless network, etc, done. I'm spending about 15min with ea cx on the phone before the trip, looking for those nuggets and preparing them for the costs. So far, it's not hurt my completion rates.
I regret that this industry is losing such fine people. I wish you all the success in the world in your next career. Longevity is such a rarity these days, no one wishes to pay for it.
