yes it was but back then most of the players that were loners went over the edge while the ones who hung out with their groups morphed into something better. In Hendrix's last album Nine to the Universe you could tell he was moving toward a pumped up sorta blues, which I thought was good. Stevie Ray was headed that way also.
To give you a better idea of what I'm talking about, these guys were also great but this rendition, I think is better that the one at Woodstock. To me music is never static, it naturally progresses.
