So far, the only lawsuit I've seen where anyone alleges that a provider was not giving true HD but was selling HD-Lite and branding it as HD is DirecTV. Check out Cohen v. DirecTV
HD is 1920 x 1080. I'm not aware of how "amplification" can change a 640x480 to a 1920x1080.
