I've been to Nagasaki and Hiroshima and have seen just what the bombs did. It really makes you think, but I am a firm believer that they saved more lives than than if there was an invasion. The Japanese had schoolgirls trained and armed with bamboo spears that they would have not hesitated to put into battle. Just look at what it took to take Okinawa. They were telling the woman that the Americans would rape them then kill and eat them. So whole family's jumped to their deaths off the cliffs, or they hid in caves with solders and would not come out so they burned or buried alive.
But they teach vary little of that part of the war here. I have talked with people of all ages here and just about anyone under 50 knows vary little about WWII. But ask about the bombs and they can tell you everything.
