Re: Amtec

Personally, I would say installs may be the hardest job to do in cable. Today, it is a far cry from the days when anyone could do installs with only 1 spool of RG59 cable for everything, a few hand tools, and customers were elated to finally get cable.

You have to please extremely demanding customers, many of whom just hate the cable company and take it all out on you. When installing you deal with 100's of different models of TV's, DVD's, VCR's, Tivo's, gaming machines, PC's and Macs all with many different operating platforms, home phone systems, and many, if not most subscribers who are clueless about operating any of it. Hey, they have owned their TV for 2 years and still don't know how to use it. Do you think they can learn to use the cable box in 15 minutes? Of course everything is behind entertainment centers weighing hundreds of pounds that the customers won't ever move. These entertainment centers are lavishly decorated with all kinds of extremely precariously placed dime store knick knacks that have the uncanny ability to have their value increase a hundredfold should they break. Oh, and no weather days doing installs, you have to do all your work no matter what the weather. Then there is time frames to be met and fines if you don't, Q C's you are responsible for and fines if you fail even when it is the subscriber that hacks up your install, in order to save themselves 50 cents by putting in their own outlet. All cable companies have a guilty until proven innocent philosophy toward installers. And it is nearly impossible to prove your innocence, because as an installer you are nothing to them. They love to charge you back to increase their profits.

The bottom line is, in doing installs, the subscriber is angry at you (you are the cable company to them), Contracting companies and MSO's think you are an idiot, and other people in the cable TV industry think extremely little of you, even though most of them could never cut it doing installs today.
All this for the lowest pay!

All things considered it is the worst position in cable, and those that do it get absolutely no respect from the others in this industry, as you can see just by reading this cabl bar.

Nope, I know I'm not going back to installs again. it has become a complete joke!
