You can do it like that, however you need to make sure from the node back into the CMTS is correct. That's a really down and dirty way of doing it in my opinion, because you are only looking at 1 upstream frequency.

I would use a Calan3010 setup or trilithic SSR/SST type system before I did it with the Sunrise CM1000 or 500.. This way you can see you entire response in the return spectrum. You will also be able to track ingress at the same time if need be.
