There seems to be a trend towards management pushing their inhouse techs to work too fast because of budget issues. When they hire a contractor, the cost is fixed at whatever the contract rate is for that job. So it doesn't matter if the contractor takes 3 minutes or 3 hours to accomplish the job. On the other hand, if an inhouse tech takes too long on a job, the cost of the operation goes up. As a result, I have come to learn that many inhouse techs do shoddy work as a result of the pressure coming from management to get done with that job fast.
I would not want to work under any such conditions where I felt I would have to compromise the quality of my work in order to please the boss when it comes to the timesheets.
