Old dog needs to learn new trick

My background is in twisted pair (telephone). The last 12 years has all been fiber. Other than FTTP most of my work has been for cable TV companies. I have been asked to optimize nodes before the coax splicers do they're cut over. Unfortunately what I know about coax would fit in the nostrill of a gnat. My question is, what is a good meter for optimizing nodes. I've been told SDA 5000 or 4040 will work. I would like to hear opinions from the experts. Thanx Dogs.
