With multi pair wire for distribution the colors go as follows,
Blue White/ Blue
Orange White / Orange
Green White / Green
Brown White / Brown
Slate White / Slate
and on and on through the color code.
Re: your supposed to use the red green pair right.

No that is not fully correct, on inside drop wire, jacks and so on yes red/green and yellow/black are used for the first two lines.
