Re: warning signs

The concept of home ownership is still dependent on the laws of this nation still being in effect. Absent of a functioning body of government, your home belongs to whomever has the most firepower. So if making the payments on time makes you feel that your home will be safely held in your name and not to Joe Firepower, then good luck with that.

Your best bet when the crap hits the fan:

School buildings are pretty well fortified for making a stand and usually have good resources available.

Make friends with the guy who runs the neighborhood gun store. He'll need help preventing it from being looted. You can probably arm yourself quite well by giving him a hand.

After the stores are looted and the local water supply runs dry because the government ain't paying anyone to come operate the wells and pumps, people will have about 72 hours to figure out their dehydration issues.

A diesel generator can give you backup power and will be preferable as gasoline will probably disappear first and vegetable oil will burn in a diesel engine. Might even be plenty of veggie oil left at the store as the stuff will be worthless to the masses who can't cook without electricity or natural gas. Just make sure to blanket your windows and don't turn on lights so that people can't see you have electricity and they don't.

Don't expect the government to help you. The government is made up of people. People need paychecks to come to work (cable guys excepted). No paychecks = no people = no government. No running water, no gas, no police or fire.
