I have to ask. If your a good tech than why would one have to travel more than 50 mi. to work (unless one wanted to see the country) in a good paying system close to home unless you have simply hacked your way through the local plants and can no longer work in your home area ?
I did contract installs up to a couple of months ago and never had to commute more than 50 miles to make a couple grand a week.
Now I recruit, hire, and train techs for a company, and 9 times out of 10 the guys that come to me to contract installs from 100's of miles away are complete hacks.
They sell me the same ole song and dance routine about "I been doing cable for 15 years" and they promise to reinvent the wheel, but only end up giving the company a flat tire.
It's gotten to the point where ones better off investing the charge back dollars into training entry level techs from the ground up so they don't come in with bad habits, and teaching those that are teachable how to do it the proper way from the get go.
But what do I know.
