My birdog picked up 118 just fine, only had to download it first.
DP+ LNBs require more amperage than normal LNB. This extra current draw is interpreted as a short by some Birdogs and they will shut down so as not to blow any of the electronics inside the meter. The actual draw of the DP+ LNBs won't blow out the meter but the Birdog is just designed to clamp off if current draw exceeds a set amount. It doesn't know that its just a few milliamps over, it just knows it is over and so it does a safety shutdown. The newer Birdogs are set to allow a higher current draw before the safety shutdown. You will still experience shorter battery cycles with the Plus LNBs because they consumer more electricity.
If you want to modify your birdog to do the DP+ LNBs, you can probably do so by removing a capacitor or some other part inside and putting in one that allows a greater draw before clamping. This will likely void the warranty and the Birdog might not be able to take the bigger draws without damage. However, considering how quickly the new Birdogs were able to be modified to allow for DP+ LNBs, I would say that they probably can as the above procedure is probably what BDOG does to make the new units compatible. If you do this, you might want to look at the circuit board on a new bdog and see how it is different. You'll be looking for something small like different color bands on resistors, etc.
