And it is illegal for them to say you can't work in Cable industry for 1 year after you quit. It's a form of a non-compete clause and it's a form of a threat. In any state of "at-will" employment. The 10% they hold back is retainage, but most Dycom companies pay it, unless you totally screw up your jobs/paperwork (because it screws up all the paperwork that they have to do over).
Most Dycom companies are legit and they require you to have all the necessary insurances if you're a subcontractor.
But this doesn't sound right for just installers.....
