You brought the right equipment to do the job, in-field tool failure happens to all of us. I assume you brought an inclinometer for checking LOS.
BTW, I have a birdog, accutrac22pro, and a $10 squawker as a last resort. While I can dead-reckon with the best of them, the signal will be optimized with a meter.
