I agree with Joe.
I wouldn't start anything here on this site (might be used against you later, and you know how that goes in this business).
Phone calls don't offer much proof in court, but send certified mail with signature proof (several times if necessary). I would offer a payment plan as an option (he might have some financial crisis of his own). Be professional in your letters - don't threaten physical harm & such (for the obvious reasons). And be sure you keep a detailed timeline of your correspondence (and responses) for your memory and proof for court. It will be time consuming, but depending on the amount owed, it could be worth it - even if just for the principle. Good luck!!
