I did CATV installs for a brief period for a good system. They did everything for the cx and were fair with the contractors. But the system would go down often enough that subs were switching from one cable company to another regularly. The two competing companies ground each other up.
When Primestar came along folks who couldn't afford the KU band big dishes saw a chance to bail out of the cable problems and did. No loyalty. They were just tired of needing a phone to get cable service. The sats bump cable like diesel electric trains replaced coal burning steam trains.
What I am watching now is what happens to the folks who will never be offered CATV or DSS as the analog TV transmission good down in 2009.
