Re: Idea

A tax on labor is a violation of the 13th amendment which prohibits involuntary servitude.

Let's say you are taxed at the 15% rate. If you make $20/hour then in a 40 hour work-week, you must work 6 hours to meet your financial obligation to the IRS. In other words, that 7.8 weeks a year, nearly 2 months. So, for two months one might be a slave to the government.

Now of course we could argue that one could opt-out of the involuntary servitude by simply not working. However, if the entire nation did that, the US would collapse. Also, it is simply impossible for a person to preserve his existence without some form of money-making. He would either be someone else's dependent in which he expects them or the government to support him. The other option is to be a homeless bum. However, even the bum must work the freeway off-ramp for money, money which would be taxable under current law so even his labor goes untaxed if he complies with the law. He could probably route through dumpsters and such for food scraps but a good IRS auditor could probably argue that such scraps have some value and tax him accordingly.

That is why I personally hate income taxes as they are involuntary servitude. A better option would be to tax items as they are sold. One could simply avoid taxation by not purchasing items. You could limit your tax obligation to buying just enough land to sustain yourself on agriculture and to cutting your own timber for a home just as the farmer and pioneer did. Of course the property taxes would get you then too, which is why I oppose property taxes. If you think you own your home, try not paying the property taxes.
