Just remember that attorneys make their money by charging a percentage. It is therefore in the attorney's best interest to secure as large a settlement for his client as possible. He will try and convince her that she needs to pursue greater financial security from you, so his commission will be larger.

Advise her of that. Also let her know that you aren't going to fall into the same trap of letting an attorney convince you that you need to pursue more than what you two agree is reasonable.
