I get that from an occasional telco cx. If this helps use it...........your butt set and regular line phones are NOT amplified. Walk around phones ARE and pick up all kind of stuff your test phone will miss. The line sounds clear but the walk around (being an amplifies radio receiver) gets all the snap, carackle & pops. Add a cheap phone to your bag of tricks.........one with caller ID. Show the cx a "regular" phone works ok and get out of Dodge before dark.
