Why would anyone leave

Why would anyone with walking sense leave $5k - $10k worth of test equipment in their truck? My meter will always go with me. If I buy a meter I want to own it not say I left it for some loser to have. It does make you wonder, could someone actually be so absent minded to leave that much money in their truck overnight. Poor judgement.
